Innovation Award of Baden-Württemberg – Dr.-Rudolf-Eberle-Prize, awarded to SONOTRONIC in 2007

On 27th of November SONOTRONIC Nagel GmbH from Karlsbad-Ittersbach was awarded the "Innovation award of the Land Baden-Württemberg – Dr.-Rudolf-Eberle-Prize 2007 ". At the awards ceremony, Ernst Pfister, the minister of economic affairs, underlined that "Innovations are the breeding ground for a prospering economy. This contest proves that most of the innovative stimulus come from medium-sized companies“.

SONOTRONIC was awarded the prize for outstanding performance in the development and practical implementation of an ultrasonic reactor for the processing of bio-substances. Together with the University of Hamburg-Harburg, SONOTRONIC developed a process, which considerably improves the efficiency of municipal and industrial sewage treatment plants and digester gas plants. SONOTRONIC Director, Ingo Nagel, stated: "We achieved that goal thanks to the effects of ultrasonic technology. The energy-charged ultrasound creates a force field inside the sonificated bio-substances. Innovation Award of Baden-Württemberg 2007This process generates innumerable tiny gas bubbles which implode, discharging enough energy to destroy most flakes, cells and molecule clusters". Bio-substances, which have passed through such a process, can be broken down more easily by micro-organisms, without the need for chemical additives. Essential advantages of this process are also the reduction in the digesting time of up to 60%, the reduction in residual sludge of 30% and the increase in digester gas of up to 30%. We are currently carry out research into another area of application for our ultrasonic reactor: The aim is the chlorine-free swimming pool and the end of red eyes".

The intention is to eliminate all germs and bacteria from the water of swimming pools through sonification, without the need to add chlorine. The test phase begins in December in Hamburg. A Heidelberg swimming facility has also declared its interest in this technology.

SONOTRONIC opened up the environmental technology market with the launch of the ultrasonic reactor. As early as 2006 the ultrasonic reactor won the German Industry Innovation Prize in the environmental technology category. The SONOTRONIC group has more than 170 employees worldwide. The main business is the development and production of custom-made, ultrasonic machines, where SONOTRONIC is the international industry leader. SONOTRONIC delivers more than 120 special machines a year to the automotive industry and its sub-contractors, for punching and welding bumpers, door panels, interior trim and airbag equipment. SONOTRONIC is also present in the packaging and textile industries.

The "Innovation Award – Dr.-Rudolf-Eberle-prize 2007 – confirms the success of our company's strategy, which will be further pursued here in Karlsbad. We recently strengthened our presence in the Karlsruhe technology region by building a major extension to our production halls".
